Jose Achi

PRINCIPAL

Raised in Miami, Jose spent his formative years in Los Angeles and New York. The mix of the refined style of the East Coast with the relaxed mood of the West allows him to establish a design vocabulary that combines both ideologies, warmth and ease with a highly sophisticated aesthetic.

Jose received his degree in Architecture from the Southern California Institute of Architecture. There, he immersed himself in the rigourous and theory based side of the profession. This plus his study of fashion design, photography, print and paper making provided the foundation for an insight into a keen design approach and sensibility.

Upon graduation, Jose’s career began at workshop/apd, followed by tenure at Clodagh Design and Dodd Mitchell Design in Los Angeles. Soon after, he joined AD100 Firm Groves & Co. as Studio and Creative Director, where he created and managed projects for an array of top clients, including Frederic Fekkai, Scott Conant and HFZ Capital Group. It was these assignments that honed his ability to synthesize various creative disciplines.

Following successes of various residential, hospitality and retail projects, some of which have been featured and nominated in various publications such as Interior Design Magazine, Hospitality Design and Architectural Digest, Jose founded DESIGN STUDIO_JA in 2014.

A long standing resident of Brooklyn and The Catskills, Jose spends his free time with his husband working on his 5 acres upstate and enjoying new restaurants, his dogs Eames and Ray, and travelling the world.
